The safe disposal of StarFix material and packaging

At Star Uretech, we are committed to developing products that are not only high-performing but also responsible throughout their entire lifecycle. The correct disposal of StarFix products and packaging helps protect people, the environment and ensures compliance with local waste regulations. The appropriate disposal method depends on whether the product has fully cured or remains in its liquid state. Once fully cured, StarFix polyurethane products become inert solids and are no longer classified as hazardous.

Fully Cured Product Residue

Containers that only contain fully cured StarFix product around the sides or base are considered non-hazardous.

Before disposal:

Remove or completely obscure the original hazard label.
Empty packaging can then be recycled where suitable, or disposed of as general building waste in accordance with local regulations.

Because the remaining product is fully cured, it is chemically inert and does not require disposal as hazardous waste.

Containers with Uncured Product Residue

If a container contains a small amount of uncured (liquid) StarFix product, the preferred option is to allow the remaining material to cure before disposal.

To do this:

Remove the lid from the container.
Place it in a secure, well-ventilated location.
Leave it undisturbed for approximately 48 hours.
Once the remaining material has fully cured, remove or obscure the hazard label and dispose of the packaging as general building waste or recycle it where appropriate.

If the remaining product cannot be allowed to cure, securely refit the lid, ensure the hazard label remains visible, and dispose of the container through a licensed hazardous waste contractor.

Unused or Unopened Product

Unused StarFix products that remain in their original liquid state should always be treated as hazardous waste.

Before disposal:

Ensure the lid is securely fitted.
Leave the original hazard label intact and clearly visible.
Arrange disposal through a licensed hazardous waste collection company in accordance with local regulations.

Never dispose of liquid product into drains, watercourses or the general waste stream.

Environmental Responsibility

Star Uretech designs its products with sustainability in mind. Wherever possible, allowing residual material to fully cure before disposal reduces the volume of hazardous waste generated and enables packaging to be recycled or disposed of safely as non-hazardous building waste. Always follow local environmental legislation and site-specific waste management procedures.
