Product Storage

Protecting Performance from Manufacture to Installation

Correct storage is one of the simplest ways to ensure your StarFix products continue to deliver the exceptional performance they were designed to achieve. Although the StarFix range has been formulated with outstanding long-term stability, all reactive construction products benefit from being stored under suitable conditions. By following a few straightforward guidelines, you can maximise shelf life, maintain consistent application properties and ensure optimum performance whenever the product is required.

Store at a Moderate Temperature

StarFix products should ideally be stored between 5°C and 20°C.

Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can accelerate the natural ageing of reactive materials, while very low temperatures may temporarily increase viscosity, making some products more difficult to dispense or apply.

If a product has been stored outside the recommended temperature range, allow it to return naturally to room temperature before use. Never attempt to warm containers using naked flames or uncontrolled heat sources.

Keep Containers Dry

Moisture is the enemy of many polyurethane-based products.

Always store containers in clean, dry conditions, away from standing water, leaking roofs or excessive humidity. Keeping products dry helps preserve packaging integrity and prevents contamination during storage and handling.

Ensure Good Ventilation

Products should always be stored in a well-ventilated area.

Good airflow helps maintain stable storage conditions while preventing unnecessary heat build-up within storage areas, particularly during warmer months.

Keep Containers Sealed

Always keep StarFix products in their original, unopened containers until they are required for use.

The original packaging has been specifically selected to protect the product during transport and storage. Once opened, lids should be replaced immediately after use and securely sealed to minimise exposure to atmospheric moisture.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Store containers away from direct sunlight and other sources of radiant heat.

Leaving products in direct sunlight or inside hot vehicles for prolonged periods can significantly increase container temperatures, potentially affecting long-term storage stability.

Whenever possible, store products indoors in a shaded, temperature-controlled environment.

Prevent Contamination

Avoid allowing water, dirt or other chemicals to enter the container during use.

For polyurethane-based products, particular care should be taken to avoid contamination with water or amines, as these substances may react with the product and reduce its performance or shorten its usable life.

Always use clean tools and ensure container lids remain free from contamination before resealing.

Fire Safety

Although none of the products in the StarFix range are classified as flammable and all of the products have significantly improved safety profiles compared with traditional construction chemicals, good warehouse practice should always be followed.

Where practical:

  • Store products in a designated chemical storage area.

  • Keep containers away from ignition sources and unnecessary heat.

  • Ensure storage areas comply with site fire safety procedures.

  • Follow the recommendations provided within the relevant Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Safe Handling

Good standards of industrial hygiene should always be observed when handling StarFix products.

We recommend:

  • Wearing suitable protective gloves when handling containers.

  • Avoiding unnecessary contact with uncured products.

  • Following all guidance contained within the relevant Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

  • Ensuring anyone using the product has read and understood the appropriate safety information (including the installations COSHH assessment) before use.

A Few Simple Steps for Long-Term Reliability

By following these straightforward storage recommendations, you will help ensure every StarFix product performs exactly as intended:
