Our high-performance, ZERO-VOC pedestal adhesive for permanently bonding raised access flooring pedestals to suitable prepared substrates.

PED-ZERO has been developed to provide excellent adhesion, controlled application and long-term pedestal stability while offering significantly improved environmental and occupational characteristics compared with traditional monomeric diisocyanate-based or two pack pedestal adhesives.

StarFix TANKING-ZERO

Our ZERO-VOC tanking and waterproofing system designed for use beneath raised access flooring and other suitable construction applications.

TANKING-ZERO provides a durable protective membrane while maintaining the environmental and occupational benefits associated with the StarFix ZERO range.

What Does the 25-Year Warranty Mean?

The StarFix ZERO warranty provides assurance against failure of PED-ZERO or TANKING-ZERO resulting from a defect in the supplied product, subject to the product being correctly stored, specified and installed in accordance with the applicable Star Uretech technical documentation.

​

The warranty reflects our confidence in the formulation, manufacture, quality control and long-term durability of these products. It is important, however, to distinguish product performance from the performance of the complete installation.

​

A raised access flooring installation contains numerous materials and interfaces. These can include the structural substrate, screed, surface coatings, pedestal surface treatment, adhesive, waterproofing membrane and other components. The performance of any one component can therefore be affected by the condition and suitability of the materials around it.

​

Conditions for Long-Term Performance

For StarFix PED-ZERO and TANKING-ZERO to perform as designed, good installation practice remains essential. Products should be within their stated shelf life, correctly stored and installed in accordance with the current Star Uretech Technical Information, Method Statement and other applicable installation guidance.

​

Particular attention should be given to:

​

• substrate condition and preparation;

• removal of dust, laitance and contamination;

• suitability and integrity of existing coatings or surface treatments;

• pedestal material and surface treatment where applicable;

• application temperature and environmental conditions;

• correct product application;

• appropriate curing conditions and curing time; and

• protection of the installation during the curing period.

Where the condition or suitability of a substrate is uncertain, appropriate investigation or testing should be carried out before installation.

​

Understanding Product Failure and System Failure

Not every failure involving a bonded pedestal or tanking membrane represents a failure of the StarFix product.

​

For example, during pedestal testing it is possible for PED-ZERO to remain firmly bonded to the steel pedestal while a layer of concrete, screed or surface laitance remains attached to the adhesive. In this situation, the adhesive bond may actually have exceeded the strength of the substrate. The failure has occurred within the substrate rather than within the adhesive or adhesive interface.

Similarly, failure can potentially occur because of an unsuitable pedestal coating, contamination, poorly adhered surface treatment, weak screed, structural movement or another component within the flooring system.

​

Examining the failure surface is therefore an important part of determining the actual cause of any reported problem.

​

• product name and batch number;

• installation date;

• substrate type and condition;

• details of surface preparation;

• pedestal type and surface treatment;

• environmental conditions during installation and curing;

• photographs of the installation or affected area;

• test results; and

• physical samples where available.

Examination of the failure surfaces can often provide valuable evidence as to whether failure has occurred within the product, at an interface, within the substrate or elsewhere within the flooring system.

​

This approach helps ensure that reported problems are assessed objectively and that the underlying cause is properly understood.
