Coverage Rates
Calculating Material Requirments
Estimating the correct quantity of adhesive or coating is an important part of every successful installation. Ordering too little can delay a project, while ordering too much unnecessarily increases costs.
The coverage rates shown below have been calculated using typical installation conditions and are intended to provide realistic guidance when planning a project. Wherever practical, our figures include a small allowance for normal application losses to better reflect real-world usage rather than purely theoretical calculations,
Actual coverage may vary depending upon substrate condition, application method and the experience of the installer.
Understanding Coverage Rates
Different StarFix products are designed for different applications, so their coverage is expressed in different ways.
StarFix Pedestal Adhesives
Products used to bond steel pedestals are expressed as:
-
Grams per pedestal
-
Total number of pedestals that can be installed
-
Equivalent number of 600 × 600 mm floor panels
-
Approximate floor area (m²)
This makes it easy to estimate the amount of adhesive required regardless of whether your project has been designed by floor area, panel count or pedestal quantity.
StarFix Sealers
Concrete dust sealers are expressed as:
-
Grams per square metre
-
Total coverage in m²
-
Equivalent number of panels
-
Equivalent number of pedestals
Coverage will vary depending on the porosity and condition of the concrete.

How to Calculate Product Requirements
The simplest way to estimate product usage is to use our online Material Requirement Calculator or to divide your project into one of the following measurements.
If You Know the Number of Pedestals:
Multiply the number of pedestals by the adhesive consumption per pedestal.
For example:
-
100 pedestals × 90 g per pedestal = 9.0 kg of adhesive required
A single 9kg unit of StarFix PED-ZERO would therefore complete the installation.
If You Know the Floor Area
Use the published coverage rate for the relevant product.
For example:
-
A 10 kg unit of StarFix TANKING-ZERO covers approximately 6 m².
-
A 20 Ltr unit of StarFix SEAL-ZERO (undiluted) covers approximately 450 m² under normal conditions.
If your project measures 900 m² and you intend to apply undiluted StarFix SEAL-ZERO at the recommended coverage rate:
900 ÷ 450 = 2 units required
If You Know the Number of Floor Panels
The table also provides an equivalent number of standard 600 × 600 mm panels.
For example:
-
A unit of StarFix PED-PRO will typically install approximately 80 floor panels.
A project containing 240 panels would therefore require:
240 ÷ 80 = 3 units
Factors That Can Affect Coverage
The published coverage figures are intended as practical planning guides. Actual consumption may vary depending on:
-
Concrete surface roughness and porosity.
-
Flatness of the subfloor.
-
Pedestal base dimensions.
-
Installation technique.
-
Amount of product applied per pedestal.
-
Ambient temperature.
-
Material wastage during application.
Highly textured or uneven concrete may require more product than smooth, well-prepared substrates.
Designed Around Real-World Installations
Unlike false claims made for marketing purposes or theoretical laboratory calculations (which we historically quoted, sorry!), the StarFix coverage figures have been developed using practical installation experience. They are intended to provide realistic estimates that help installers order the correct quantity of material first time, reducing unnecessary waste while ensuring sufficient product is available to complete the project efficiently.
If your installation has unusual pedestal spacings, non-standard panel sizes or particularly challenging substrates, our technical team will be pleased to help calculate the expected product requirement for your specific project.
