Chemistry is at the heart of the StarToll toll manufacturing and product development service. Our in-house technical team has extensive experience in the development, formulation and manufacture of high-performance polyurethane and related polymer technologies.

We employ several highly experienced polyurethane chemists, with decades of combined experience across adhesives, coatings, sealers, membranes, flooring systems and other specialist formulated products. This depth of knowledge allows StarToll to support projects ranging from relatively simple formulation modifications through to the development of completely new products and systems.

Polyurethane Specialists

Polyurethane chemistry is a particular strength of StarToll.

PU technology is extraordinarily versatile, but achieving the correct balance of properties requires a detailed understanding of raw materials, reaction mechanisms and formulation behaviour. Small changes to a formulation can significantly influence its processing, application and finished performance.

Our chemists have extensive practical experience developing both 1K moisture-curing and 2K reactive polyurethane technologies, enabling products to be engineered around specific customer requirements rather than simply adapting an existing off-the-shelf formulation.

This experience is supported by our own manufacturing capabilities, allowing laboratory development and commercial production to work together.

Polyurea & Polyaspartic Technology

StarToll also has specialist knowledge of polyurea and polyaspartic chemistry, including technologies used within demanding industrial coating, flooring and protective applications.

​

These chemistries can provide exceptional combinations of rapid cure, durability, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and low-temperature performance. However, their reactive nature means that formulation, manufacturing and application characteristics must be carefully balanced.

Our experience allows these technologies to be developed around the required performance and practical application conditions.

Water-Based & Lower-Impact Technologies

Environmental performance is increasingly important when developing modern chemical products.

​

StarToll can investigate water-based, low-VOC, zero-VOC and other lower-impact formulation technologies where appropriate, while ensuring that environmental improvements do not unnecessarily compromise the performance required from the finished product.

​

This can be particularly valuable when developing products intended to meet modern building, environmental or indoor air quality requirements.

Beyond Our In-House Chemistry

Our capabilities are not limited to the chemistries manufactured directly within our own facility.

Through our network of specialist approved partners, StarToll can provide access to additional technologies and processes where a project falls outside our core manufacturing capabilities.

This includes specialist services such as reaction chemistry and other chemical processing technologies, allowing us to bring additional expertise into a project when required.

Rather than attempting to manufacture every type of chemistry ourselves, we combine our own areas of specialist expertise with carefully selected external capabilities. This gives customers access to a much broader range of potential solutions while maintaining a single development relationship with StarToll.
