Pedestal Adhesives

Designed for Faster, Safer, More Reliable Installation

The performance of a raised access floor depends on far more than the quality of its panels and pedestals. The adhesive used to bond each pedestal to the subfloor plays a critical role in the long-term strength, stability and reliability of the entire installation. A high-performance pedestal adhesive ensures every pedestal remains securely bonded throughout the life of the floor, resisting the demanding loads and stresses found in modern commercial buildings.

At Star Uretech, we have spent decades developing pedestal adhesive technology that delivers superior performance while making installation faster, safer and more reliable. Today, the StarFix range has become the UK industry standard for raised access flooring installations, trusted by contractors and manufacturers across the country.

From Mechanical Fixing & Two-Component Systems to a Simpler Solution

Prior to the development of adhesive technologies in the raised access flooring industry, pedestals were mechancially fixed to the concrete base. This required drilling thousands of holes into the concrete base which not only presented risks from repetative tool injuries (such as HAVS) and the inhallation of concrete dust particles (COPD) but was also extremely time consuming. For many years after the introduction of the first adhesives, raised access flooring pedestals were bonded using traditional two-component polyurethane adhesives. While these products offered benefits over mechanical fixing, they still came with significant disadvantages.

Installers were required to mix two separate components before use, with one of the components being a hazardous material. Once mixed, the adhesive had only a limited working life, meaning any unused material quickly became waste. Mixing errors could affect curing performance, the cured material had poor elongation with a rigid material prone to cracking, while the additional preparation still proved inefficent and introduced unnecessary complexity on site.

Recognising these limitations, Star Uretech introduced their first high-performance, single-component moisture-curing pedestal adhesive specifically for the raised access flooring industry. By removing the hazardous component and eliminating the need for mixing altogether, installation became significantly simpler, cleaner and more consistent without compromising bond strength or durability.

This innovation transformed the industry and helped establish the modern approach to manual pedestal installation that is now widely used throughout the UK.

Designed for Faster, More Reliable Installation

Single-component pedestal adhesives provide numerous advantages over mechanical fixing and traditional two-component systems. Because the adhesive is supplied ready to use, installers can simply apply the product directly from the container without measuring or mixing. This reduces preparation time, eliminates mixing errors and allows installation work to progress more efficiently.

Additional benefits include:

  • Ready-to-use with no mixing required.

  • Consistent performance throughout the installation.

  • Reduced material waste.

  • Longer usable working time.

  • Cleaner application with less equipment to clean.

  • Lower labour costs through faster installation.

  • Reliable, high-strength bonding to suitable concrete substrates.

The result is a safer, more efficient installation process with consistent, repeatable performance on every project.
