Resin Surfacing
Introduction
Decorative resin surfacing is a system in which decorative stones (the aggregates) are stuck to a surface (such as a path or a driveway) using an adhesive (the resin). The completed surface is highly decorative, hardwearing and provides an alternative to other traditional forms of external surfacing such as asphalt, concrete or block paving. There are two basic types of decorative resin surface (Bound and Bonded) and each type contains their own sub-categories.

StarScape ULTRA is a high-performance adhesive used for decorative, resin bound aggregate surfacing applications. A completed installation provides a highly durable, attractive alternative to traditional exterior flooring types such as paving, concrete, gravel and bituminous surfaces. StarScape ULTRA is a clear resin which is mixed with decorative aggregates and laid as a screed at varying depths depending on the intended use of the completed surface.
Incorporating the latest in polyurethane technology, StarScape ULTRA’s UV resistant, 100% aliphatic isocyanate formulation ensures a long-lasting installation that will not discolour or become brittle over time.
StarScape PRO is a high-performance adhesive used for decorative, resin bonded aggregate surfacing applications. A completed installation provides a highly durable, attractive alternative to traditional exterior flooring types such as paving, concrete, gravel and bituminous surfaces. StarScape PRO is a coloured resin which is applied to a base and covered with a decorative aggregate. When cured, the surface is swept to remove any excess aggregate, resulting in a finish that has the attractive, natural appearance of a loose gravel surface but without the inherent problems associated with loose gravel such as aggregate migration, trapped litter and tyre rutting.
Incorporating the latest in polyurea technology, StarScape PRO’s unique formulation ensures a long-lasting installation that will not discolour, delaminate or lose its natural look.
StarScape FLEX is a three-component, liquid, polyurethane system specially formulated for decorative surfacing applications on blacktop surfaces where the quality fails to conform to ‘BS EN 13108 part 1’ or is unknown and shows signs of movement or cracking. Unlike standard resin bound or resin bonded systems, StarScape FLEX will not suffer from reflective cracking resulting from movement in the base.
StarScape THERMAL is a two-component, liquid, polyurethane resin bonded system specially formulated for exterior decorative surfacing applications. When cured, StarScape THERMAL has excellent adhesion to bituminous, cementitious, wood and metal surfaces and to most aggregates or pebbles. Its unique formulation provides additional working time without affecting its full cure. This makes StarScape THERMAL ideal for applicators that are new to cold applied resin surfacing and also for use in hot weather conditions where other systems may not provide a sufficiently long application time.
