If there is a line of trees in an urban area there are almost certainly tree pits. A tree pit is a break in the paved area in which a tree has been planted. Traditionally the tree pits have been installed with a metal grill filled with loose aggregate however these are susceptible to theft, trapped litter, rust, aggregate loss and can also present a trip hazard.
